1. Brijraj Bhawan Palace Hotel, Kota
This 19th-century palace turned heritage hotel was once home to the Rajasthan royal family. A one Major Charles Burton, part of the British Government was believed to have lived here with his family. The Major along with his family were killed during the Sepoy Mutiny. The ghost, apparently friendly is said to roam the halls slapping those guards trying to catch a snooze while on duty.
2. Fernhills Royal Palace, Ooty
The most famous incident that happened here was during the shooting of the Hindi film, Raaz (how convenient that it had happened to be a horror film). The dance team along with their choreographer were believed to have been woken up by sounds ( similar to furniture being moved ) on the top floor. The next morning they learn from the receptionist that there is no floor above. (Straight out creepy!)
3.Morgan House Tourist Lodge, Kalimpong
This 1930’s heritage house in the tiny village of Kalimpong in West Bengal is what those old-age horror stories are made of. Once home to a certain George Morgan, the house is said to have been abandoned after the death of his wife. Although the establishment was renovated to its present state, there are claims of hearing someone walking around in heels in the corridors!
4.Raj Kiran Hotel, Lonavala
This small hotel is just a two-hour ride away from Mumbai in Lonavala. The hotel is famous for being known as one of the top haunted hotels in the country by different paranormal experts. As the story goes, one of the rooms behind the reception is apparently where all the action takes place! Guests have complained of weird situations where sheets have been pulled off, blue light flashes near the feet and such. With such complaints getting higher, the hotel management just decided to stop renting out the room in question. (Would you dare?)
5.Hotel Savoy, Mussoorie
Famous for being the inspiration for Agatha Christie’s first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, the hotel is one of the most popular on the haunted list. According to the local legend, one Lady Garnet Orme was said to have died in mysterious circumstances, ( although some believe her to have been poisoned) and is said to have haunted the corridors and halls ever since. What makes this story even more spine-chilling is that fact that the doctor who was in charge of her was found dead in a similar fashion. (Talk about drama!)
6.The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Mumbai
This was definitely the biggest shocker of the lot! The famous french architect W.A Chambers who designed this landmark hotel is the ghost in question. Apparently, the Frenchman on returning from England was shocked to know that the hotel was not constructed as per his blueprints! Heartbroken and depressed by the turn of events, the man is said to have jumped to his death from the 5th floor of the hotel! Until today, people claim that they have seen him strolling through the old wing.
